The cast of “Scream Queens” teases an ever darker storyline for Season 2 of the Fox dramedy. Fox

Expect the unexpected. That’s the warning Emma Roberts gave fans of “Scream Queens” when she spoke about Season 2 of the slasher series during the Fox Upfront in New York. But that wasn’t the only scoop Roberts, who portrays sassy sorority leader Chanel, teased audiences with. She also dished that the sophomore season of the blood-drenched black comedy would take an even darker turn when the show returns to the small screen.

“It’s going to be much darker than last season,” she told E! News before her other castmates chimed in about how much more disturbing the Season 2 storyline will be. “I think it’ll be dark. I think it’s going to be very dark. It’s in a hospital,” Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Dean Munsch, stated. “Lot of darkness in hospitals — dark hallways, scary rooms, sharp objects, lots of blood, disinfectant.”

Lea Michele, who will reprise her role as the Season 1 killer Hester, added that what makes the hospital setting of Season 2 so chilling is that viewers will witness the experimentation of medical procedures. And considering “American Horror Story” co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Fulchuk are the masterminds behind the chilling Fox dramedy, we know they’ll have some eye-widening operations up their scrub sleeves for the forthcoming installment.

During 2016 PaleyFest, Falchuk revealed what inspired the gruesome Season 2 setting for “Scream Queens.” According to the executive producer, he dished that the second installment was inspired by “Halloween ” — an iconic slasher film that starred a young Curtis. Curtis will swap diplomas for sutures in Season 2 as the former dean becomes head of the hospital.

“She will take on the cases no one else will take and the conditions everyone says are incurable,” Falchuk revealed while Curtis added, “And fix the broken system!”

“Scream Queens” has not been given a Season 2 premiere date but the show will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
