Chucky
"Curse of Chucky" will bring the killer doll back with a reboot of the "Child's Play" franchise. Wiki

The "Child's Play" series has been inconsistently active since the late 80's, and in 2013 it will be rebooted with "Curse of Chucky."

The killer doll will be returning in a less humorous rendition of the character, in the film that Upcoming Horror Movies claims will have "a darker more serious tone."

The sixth "Child's Play" movie will star Brad Dourif returning as Charles Lee Ray along with Dourif's daughter Fiona Dourif (The Master, "True Blood," "Deadwood"), A Martinez ("General Hospital"), Danielle Bisutti (Get Smart, "CSI: Miami") and Brennan Elliott ("Flight 93," "Double Jeopardy"), according to Bloody Disgusting. In the original film, Ray was a criminal who was shot in a toy store and used a voodoo spell to put his soul into the body of a Good Guy doll - a play on the Cabbage Patch Kid dolls of the time.

Upcoming Horror Movies posted the official plot summary for the film

"Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Bisutti) arrives with her young family in tow to help settle their mother's affairs. As the sisters butt heads over Nica's plans for the future, Barb's young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (voiced again by Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. But as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize the household, Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed. What she doesn't know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. He's determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years earlier, and this time he's going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end."

After Chucky's soul was trapped in the doll in the first "Child's Play," he discovered that he could only switch it into the body of the first person he told of his secret - a 6-year-old boy named Andy. The plot doesn't specify if there will be any continuity from the previous Chucky movies, but the "20 years earlier" remark could allude to a connection with the original film.

In behind the scenes photos acquired by Bloody Disgusting, crew members are shown operating the puppetry equipment that controls Chucky and a notice about circus trucks. The circus truck could mean a number of things, but puppetry equipment means that the film will once again, abstain from creating the Chucky doll with CGI.

"Curse of Chucky" is slated for a 2013 release date and will be distributed straight-to-video by Universal Entertainment. Don Mancini is listed as writer, director, producer of the film.

In the more recent "Child's Play" sequels, "Bride of Chucky" and "Seed of Chucky" put the titular killer in more humorous situations, along with giving him a doll wife, showing the two toys having sex, and even giving the couple an androgynous doll child. The newest film will take the tone of the first three films of the series, with Chucky playing a more serious character.
