Fans have been waiting for more information on the Zombie Mode for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" and it seems that Treyarch is finally getting ready to make some more announcements. The developer has begun teasing fans on what's to come in this zombie-shooter portion of the widely successful military shooter franchise.
An image posted on the "Call of Duty" Twitter account suggests that the anticipated Zombie Mode will come to the Nuketown 2025 map in "Black Ops 2." This is the next iteration of the popular multiplayer map from the first "Black Ops" game which was released in 2010.
The photo depicts a "Welcome to Nuketown" sign with the word "Zombies" smeared in what appears to be blood below the town's name. There is also blood splattered across the greeting, as if a bloody hand had swiped the billboard.
"Multiplayer fans of 'Call of Duty: Black Ops' LOVE Nuketown," Treyarch's Mark Lamia said according to ComputerAndVideoGames earlier this summer. "Flat out, Nuketown was a blast to play before, and we're excited about the reimagined Nuketown 2025 in 'Call of Duty: Black Ops II.' We can't wait to play with everyone this November."
Although there hasn't been any gameplay demos or trailers released for the Zombie Mode in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2," Treyarch has revealed that the undead part of the game will run on an improved multiplayer engine. This will allow for double the amount of players to participate, and "Black Ops 2" Zombies will be getting some new gameplay modes as well. One of these new multiplayer gaming modes will let gamers face off against one another to compete for the most kills rather than slaying zombies cooperatively.
"Treyarch have given their zombie team free reign to do pretty much whatever they want with the mode regardless of the direction the campaign is headed in," wrote Matthew Pellett for ComputerAndVideoGames in his preview of "Black Ops 2."
Treyarch also released a separate image on Monday night which teased that an announcement should be coming today.
"Look what's dropping tomorrow: @Danskdansk @DavidVonderhaar & the @Treyarch team have been working on something special," the official Treyarch Studios Twitter account posted.
This could be hinting that the Prestige Edition of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" may be unveiled today. The following photo was posted along with the tweet:
Since the "Black Ops" sequel was officially announced earlier this year, there have been various alleged leaks that have surfaced across the Internet.
A screenshot from the opening menu of "Black Ops 2" Zombies reportedly leaked at the end of June, indicating that there will be a Survival Mode and a Story Mode. The description for the Survival Mode read: "Survive against hordes of the undead." The Story Mode description teased with the tagline "You will understand everything."
Another photo that was posted over the weekend on Saturday shows a doorway with a bloody handprint, according to the official "Call of Duty" forums. The caption below the image released by Treyarch said, "Something's Coming..." further indicating that fans will learn even more about the Zombie Mode soon.
We'll be sure to keep an eye on the Treyarch Twitter account for other possible announcements. In the meantime, check out the multiplayer trailer for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2."
