"The Vampire Diaries" is pumping up the drama in their upcoming fourth season! A couple weeks remain until the Oct. 11 season premiere, but we have more juicy spoilers to hold you over.

Back in July executive producer Julie Plec teased that the premiere episode would feature a "powerful, surprising death." It appears that Entertainment Weekly knows a little bit more on it.

In the upcoming Fall TV Preview issue of EW, a photo stemming from season four of "The Vampire Diaries" shows Elena, Stefan and Matt in a serious situation. The trio are sitting in a church pew in dark clothing, Stefan looks like he's in full protection mode, Elena appears to be in shock, and Matt is definitely ducking in fear.

The trio are presumably at a funeral, but with deaths happening left and right in Mystic Falls, whose funeral they are attending is definitely a mystery.

One possibility is that Elena, Stefan and Matt are attending the funeral for recently deceased Alaric, although we highly doubt that he received a proper burial after his insane vampire hunting other vampire stint. Another possibility is that they are at the funeral for the person who died the "powerful, surprising death."

While not confirmed, our theory is that the funeral the three are attending is that of Pastor Young, a new and brief character that will be appearing in season four. Described as a man of God and a vampire hater, Pastor Young is reportedly going to use Damon as bait...but bait for who?

Judging by another leaked photo, it's possible that Damon may be bait for new vampire Elena, who somehow ends up in a cage. A new preview video released shows Elena in the cage telling Stefan that she's dying. Since the big mystery will be if she'll feed to complete her transition, we have a feeling that the human she'll feed on will be Pastor Young. In our opinion, that would definitely be a "powerful, surprising death" if it came at the hands of Elena.

As for what caused the chaos in the church, it could be a number of things...including more Klaus hybrids. TVGuide.com reports that Blake Hood of "90210" and Alyssa Diaz of "The Nine Lives of Chloe King," are set to be Klaus' hybrid minions. The two won't be appearing in Mystic Falls immediately though. According to TVGuide, Hood will first show up in episode five, while Diaz will appear in episode six.

"The Vampire Diaries" returns to the CW on Thursday, Oct. 11.
