An explosion at Marcoule Nuclear Plant in southern France killed one person and injured three on Monday.

Just after the explosion, there was a fire in the plant's area where nuclear waste was stored. There is a risk of a radioactive leak from the accident, the BBC also quotes media as saying.

It was not immediately clear how serious the accident was, or whether there were any victims or the potential for leaks.

Marcoule is located in the Chusclan and Codolet French communes, near Bagnols-sur-Cèze in the Gard department.
