The Summer Olympics fun kicks off Wednesday, July 25, 2012, with a number of football (soccer to Americans) matches taking place. Thursday, July 26, 2012, is another day of nothing but football, and Friday, July 26, 2012, brings the eagerly-anticipated 2012 Summer Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in London, as well a little bit of archery.

But Saturday, July 28, 2012, is when the fun really begins, as a full slate of events will take place, with everything from volleyball and tennis to swimming and basketball kicking off all on the same day.

The first medals will also be awarded on the 28th, in athletics, cycling, fencing, judo, shooting, swimming and weightlifting.

Then it's more than two weeks of world-class sport, as every day up to and including Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, will feature a variety of events, culminating in the Closing Ceremony on Aug. 12.

The Summer Olympics are being broadcast exclusively on NBC in the United States of America, while in England they will be shown on the BBC's various channels. Consult this full list for broadcasting information about other countries around the world.
