The 2013 British Open is exactly one week away, but American Tiger Woods is still lamenting his tournament loss back in 2002.

According to CBS Sports, Woods hasn’t forgotten the 81 he shot in the third round of The Open in 2002 and the missed opportunity of taming Muirfield for the first time in his career.

That kind of determination and stubborn memory has been a staple of Woods’s successful career, and is certainly one of the reasons he is an overwhelming 8-to-1 favorite at the The Open, taking place once again at Muirfield in Scotland from July 18-21. The field is also set at 8-to-1 odds, and is apparently just as safe a bet as Woods.

The 37-year-old Woods has won The Open three times, the last coming in 2006. But he’s still mired in a five-year major drought, and is coming off an elbow injury he suffered at the U.S. Open at Merion last month. Woods has laid low since the U.S. Open due to the injury, and reportedly in part for preparation for Muirfield.

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy is right behind Woods at 20-to-1 odds, along with reigning Masters champ Adam Scott and England’s Justin Rose.

Since his eighth place finish at the Players Championship, McIlroy missed two cuts, including the Irish Open, and shot a 76 in the final round of the U.S. Open. The 24-year-old’s best finish at The Open was in 2010 when he came in third.

South Africa’s Ernie Els is the defending champion and needed a 7-under 273 last year, fending off Scott by a single stroke, and Woods who finished in third with a three-under.

Below is a full list of the odds.
