Jeep will reveal its 2014 Cherokee at the 2013 New York Auto Show on Wednesday at 1:45 p.m EDT. While Jeep, owned by Daimler Chrysler, has already revealed the revived Cherokee in photos, its debut at the New York Auto Show will be its first public outing.

Jeep revealed the new Cherokee on Feb. 22 and it was met with mixed reviews. The 2014 Cherokee's design is a radical departure from the boxy Cherokee of years past. It will replace the Liberty in Jeep's lineup, reports Forbes. The Liberty had replaced the original Cherokee in 2001 but failed to capture its share of fans and was discontinued in 2012.

The 2014 Cherokee will feature the trademark front grille with seven slats, but instead of square lines, there are plenty of curves found in the new Cherokee. The design has been rather controversial as the mid-size sports utility vehicle bears little resemblance to its namesake.

The 2014 Cherokee features four headlights, two small headlights located at the bottom of the grille in addition to two headlights higher up on the grille, as well as two fog lamps located in the bumper. The 2014 Cherokee is built on the Alfa Romeo platform that is used in the Giulietta and the American version of the Dodge Dart, reports the Telegraph. Automotive News is reporting the 2014 Cherokee will feature a 3.2-liter V-6 engine and 9-speed front-wheel-drive automatic transmission designed by ZF Friedrichshafen.

Mike Wall, an auto analyst that spoke to Forbes, said Jeep may be trying to court a new demographic with the 2014 Cherokee, focusing less on off-road or trail enthusiasts and more on young individuals and female drivers. The 2014 Cherokee is expected to go on sale in the fall, and the debut at the New York Auto Show will reveal even more details and features about the crossover.
