Three elderly Seattle brothers were each charged with two counts of possessing child porn after an investigation of their home revealed an alleged obsession with sexualizing minors and fantasizing their deaths.

“It’s very clear that these three individuals have an obsession with young female children,” said Seattle Police Capt. Mike Edwards in a Monday press conference. “They’ve had this obsession for most if not all of their lives and in some cases acted out on that obsession against family members.”

The three brothers — Charles Emery, 82, Thomas Emery, 80, and Edwin Emery, 78 — are being held on a $500,000 bond each. Their house, according to Washington prosecutors, was “littered from floor to ceiling with child exploitation images, children’s clothing articles, toys and movies.”

None of the brothers had ever had children or been married. Court documents describe the brothers as “hoarders.” They have lived in the house since 1962.

Investigators found news clippings of killed children and handwritten notes that detailed “kidnapping, torturing, raping and murdering of young girls.” Notes detailed the ritualistic and satanic sacrifice of girls. Also discovered were dozens of pairs of children’s shoes. The brothers collected “images depicting the misery of sexually abused children to satiate their deeply rooted deviant interests,” according to court documents.

“Their writings express desires to kill children,” said Edwards.

Police have not found any evidence of killings, but are searching the property with cadaver dogs.

In a 2013 investigation into the brothers, Edwin Emery admitted to having a sexual attraction to underage girls and sexually assaulting two of his underage family members when he was around 25 or 26. Edwin Emery was being investigated for child pornography in 2013 after explicit images were found on his computers when it was being repaired. No charges were filed at the time.

An unnamed female family member alerted the police about the items in the home when she came to clean out the garage. Charles Emery has dementia and was placed into the care of the female relative and she was taking care of his affairs. She told police that Charles and Edwin Emery had sexually abused her as a child. She also detailed that all three brothers had allegedly abused another female relative when she was a child. Police are investigating these allegations, but Edwards said that because of the age of the crimes they may not be prosecutable because they are outside a statute of limitations.

Court documents say that Edwin and Thomas Emery were “nonchalant and relatively unconcerned about the serious nature of the allegations,” and denied knowledge of any killings, but said it was “possible ..if everything the officers was saying was true.”

The brothers did not immediately respond to the charges.
