The earnings calendar for the week ahead will be comparatively light, but a number of bellwether companies will be reporting results.

Most of the remaining companies still to report results are in the retail sector, including important retail players such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) and the Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT).

Total earnings for the 88 percent of S&P 500 companies that have already reported are up 7.4 percent from the same period last year. About 65 percent of the companies are coming ahead of expectations, with the median surprise at a very good 3.5 percent, according to Zacks Equity Research.

We ran a screen and produced a list of 33 key companies set to report their earnings between May 14 and May 18. We have highlighted their expected reporting dates and times, along with analysts' earnings-per-share and revenue estimates from Reuters, as well as the stocks' year-to-date performances.

Monday Before Market Open, or BMO:

Groupon Inc. (Nasdaq: GRPN) is a local e-commerce marketplace that connects merchants to consumers by offering goods and services at a discount. The company has a market capitalization of $6.3 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 1 cent on revenue of $530.82 million. Groupon recorded a loss of 2 cents a share on revenue of $506.48 million in the prior quarter. Groupon is trading around $9.87 a share, which is 51 percent off its initial public offering price of $20 last November. So far this year, the stock has lost 52.16 percent.

Monday After Market Close, or AMC:

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) is a measurement company providing bioanalytical and electronic measurement solutions to the communications, electronics, life-sciences, and chemical-analysis industries. The company has a market cap of $13.81 billion. It is expected to report fiscal second-quarter EPS of 73 cents on revenue of $1.71 billion, compared with a profit of 74 cents a share on revenue of $1.68 billion in the year-ago period. Agilent is trading around $39.74 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 13.77 percent.

Tuesday BMO:

The Home Depot Inc. (NYSE: HD) is a home-improvement retailer. The company has a market cap of $77.19 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 64 cents on revenue of $17.88 billion, compared with a profit of 50 cents a share on revenue of $16.82 billion in the year-ago period. Home Depot is currently trading around $50.62 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 20.41 percent.

The TJX Companies Inc. (NYSE: TJX) is an off-price apparel and home-fashions retailer in the U.S. and worldwide. The company has a market cap of $30.99 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 54 cents on revenue of $5.75 billion, compared with a profit of 39 cents a share on revenue of $5.22 billion in the year-ago period. TJX is currently trading around $41.79 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 29.46 percent.

Saks Inc. (NYSE: SKS) is a department-store retailer. The company has a market cap of $1.65 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 18 cents on revenue of $764.35 million, compared with a profit of 17 cents a share on revenue of $726 million in the year-ago period.
