33 Key Earnings Reports To Watch This Week, May 14-18

The earnings calendar for the week ahead will be comparatively light, but a number of bellwether companies will be reporting results.

Most of the remaining companies still to report results are in the retail sector, including important retail players such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) and the Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT).

Total earnings for the 88 percent of S&P 500 companies that have already reported are up 7.4 percent from the same period last year. About 65 percent of the companies are coming ahead of expectations, with the median surprise at a very good 3.5 percent, according to Zacks Equity Research.

We ran a screen and produced a list of 33 key companies set to report their earnings between May 14 and May 18. We have highlighted their expected reporting dates and times, along with analysts' earnings-per-share and revenue estimates from Reuters, as well as the stocks' year-to-date performances.

Monday Before Market Open, or BMO:

Groupon Inc. (Nasdaq: GRPN) is a local e-commerce marketplace that connects merchants to consumers by offering goods and services at a discount. The company has a market capitalization of $6.3 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 1 cent on revenue of $530.82 million. Groupon recorded a loss of 2 cents a share on revenue of $506.48 million in the prior quarter. Groupon is  trading around $9.87 a share, which is 51 percent off its initial public offering price of $20 last November. So far this year, the stock has lost 52.16 percent.

Monday After Market Close, or AMC:

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) is a measurement company providing bioanalytical and electronic measurement solutions to the communications, electronics, life-sciences, and chemical-analysis industries. The company has a market cap of $13.81 billion. It is expected to report fiscal second-quarter EPS of 73 cents on revenue of $1.71 billion, compared with a profit of 74 cents a share on revenue of $1.68 billion in the year-ago period. Agilent is trading around $39.74 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 13.77 percent.

Tuesday BMO:

The Home Depot Inc. (NYSE: HD) is a home-improvement retailer. The company has a market cap of $77.19 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 64 cents on revenue of $17.88 billion, compared with a profit of 50 cents a share on revenue of $16.82 billion in the year-ago period. Home Depot is currently trading around $50.62 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 20.41 percent.

The TJX Companies Inc. (NYSE: TJX) is an off-price apparel and home-fashions retailer in the U.S. and worldwide. The company has a market cap of $30.99 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 54 cents on revenue of $5.75 billion, compared with a profit of 39 cents a share on revenue of $5.22 billion in the year-ago period. TJX is currently trading around $41.79 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 29.46 percent.

Saks Inc. (NYSE: SKS) is a department-store retailer. The company has a market cap of $1.65 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 18 cents on revenue of $764.35 million, compared with a profit of 17 cents a share on revenue of $726 million in the year-ago period. Saks is currently trading around $10.36 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 6.26 percent.

Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. (NYSE: DKS) is a sporting-goods retailer offering an assortment of brand name sporting-goods equipment, apparel, and footwear. The company has a market cap of $6.03 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 38 cents on revenue of $1.23 billion, compared with a profit of 30 cents a share on revenue of $1.11 billion in the year-ago period. Dick's Sporting Goods is currently trading around $49.35 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 33.81 percent.

SINA Corp. (USA) (Nasdaq: SINA) is an online media company and mobile value-added service, or MVAS, provider in the People's Republic of China and the global Chinese communities. The company has a market cap of $3.61 billion. It is expected to report a loss of 23 cents a share in the first quarter on revenue of $102.56 million, compared with a profit of 25 cents a share on revenue of $95.53 million in the year-ago period. Sina is currently trading around $54.75 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 5.29 percent.

Tuesday, AMC:

J.C. Penney Co. Inc. (NYSE: JCP) is a retailer, selling merchandise and services to consumers online and through its department stores. The company has a market cap of $7.38 billion. It is expected to report a loss of 10 cents a share in the first quarter on revenue of $3.48 billion, compared with a profit of 30 cents a share on revenue of $3.94 billion in the year-ago period. J.C. Penney is currently trading around $33.81 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 3.81 percent.

Wednesday, BMO:

Target Corp. (NYSE:TGT) operates in three segments: U.S. Retail, U.S. Credit Card, and Canadian. The company has a market cap of $36.62 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of $1 on revenue of $16.83 billion, compared with a profit of 99 cents a share on revenue of $15.94 billion in the year-ago period. Target is currently trading around $55.31 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 8 percent.

Deere & Co. (NYSE: DE) operates in three business segments: agriculture and turf, construction and forestry, and credit. The company has a market cap of $31.73 billion. It is expected to report fiscal second-quarter EPS of $2.53 on revenue of $9.7 billion, compared with a profit of $2.12 a share on revenue of $8.33 billion in the year-ago period. Deere is currently trading around $78.96 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 2.08 percent.

Staples Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) is an office-products company. The company has a market cap of $10.38 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 30 cents on revenue of $6.19 billion, compared with a profit of 28 cents a share on revenue of $6.17 billion in the year-ago period. Staples is currently trading around $14.96 a share. So far this year, the stock has appreciated 7.7 percent.

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE: ANF), through its subsidiaries, is a specialty retailer of casual apparel for men, women, and kids. The company has a market cap of $4.03 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 2 cents on revenue of $951.37 million, compared with a profit of 27 cents a share on revenue of $836.67 million in the year-ago period. Abercrombie & Fitch is currently trading around $47.54 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 2.66 percent.

The Progressive Corp. (NYSE: PGR) is an insurance holding company. The company has a market cap of $13.46 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 37 cents on revenue of $4.07 billion, compared with a profit of 35 cents a share on revenue of $3.84 billion in the year-ago period. Progressive is currently trading around $22.03 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 12.92 percent.

Wednesday, AMC:

Ctrip.com International Ltd. (ADR) (NASDAQ: CTRP) is a travel-service provider for hotel accommodations, airline tickets, and packaged tours in China. The company has a market cap of $2.73 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 19 cents on revenue of $143.77 million, compared with a profit of 24 cents a share on revenue of $116.75 million in the year-ago period. Ctrip.com is currently trading around $19.01 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 18.76 percent.

Limited Brands Inc. (NYSE: LTD) is a specialty retailer of women's intimate and other apparel, beauty and personal-care products, and accessories. The company has a market cap of $14.28 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 41 cents on revenue of $2.14 billion, compared with a profit of 40 cents a share on revenue of $2.22 billion in the year-ago period. Limited is currently trading around $48.67 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 20.62 percent.

Thursday, BMO:

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) operates retail stores in various formats globally. The company has a market cap of $201.51 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of $1.04 on revenue of $110.44 billion, compared with a profit of 98 cents a share on revenue of $104.19 billion in the year-ago period. Wal-Mart Stores is currently trading around $59.19 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 1 percent.

Advance Auto Parts Inc. (NYSE: AAP) is a specialty retailer of automotive aftermarket parts, accessories, batteries, and maintenance items, primarily operating within the U.S. The company has a market cap of $6.52 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of $1.8 on revenue of $2 billion, compared with a profit of $1.35 a share on revenue of $1.90 billion in the year-ago period. Advance Auto Parts is currently trading around $89.07 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 27.92 percent.

Computer Sciences Corp. (NYSE:CSC) is engaged in the information-technology and professional-services industry. The company has a market cap of $4.19 billion. It is expected to report fiscal fourth-quarter EPS of 20 cents on revenue of $4.1 billion, compared with a profit of $1.09 a share on revenue of $4.2 billion in the year-ago period. CSC is currently trading around $27 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 13.92 percent.

Dollar Tree Inc. (Nasdaq: DLTR) is an operator of discount-variety stores offering merchandise at a fixed price. The company has a market cap of $11.83 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 97 cents on revenue of $1.7 billion, compared with a profit of 82 cents a share on revenue of $1.55 billion in the year-ago period. Dollar Tree is currently trading around $102.25 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 23.03 percent.

Precision Castparts Corp. (NYSE: PCP) is a manufacturer of complex metal components. The company has a market cap of $24.52 billion. It is expected to report fiscal fourth-quarter EPS of $2.27 on revenue of $1.93 billion, compared with a profit of $1.87 a share on revenue of $1.67 billion in the year-ago period. Precision Castparts is currently trading around $168.89 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 2.49 percent.

GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME) is a multichannel video-game retailer. The company has a market cap of $2.82 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS 53 cents on revenue of $2.1 billion, compared with a profit of 56 cents a share on revenue of $2.28 billion in the year-ago period. GameStop is currently trading around $21.07 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 12.68 percent.

Ross Stores Inc. (NASDAQ: ROST) operates two brands of off-price retail apparel and home-fashion stores. The company has a market cap of $14 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS 93 cents on revenue of $2.34 billion, compared with a profit of 74 cents a share on revenue of $2.07 billion in the year-ago period. Ross Stores is currently trading around $61.79 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 30 percent.

Thursday, AMC:

The Gap Inc. (NYSE:GPS) is a global specialty-apparel company. The company has a market cap of $13.78 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 45 cents on revenue of $3.46 billion, compared with a profit of 40 cents a share on revenue of $3.3 billion in the year-ago period. Gap is currently trading around $28.12 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 51.59 percent.

Autodesk Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK) is a design software and services company, offering customers business solutions through technology products and services. The company has a market cap of $8.36 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 47 cents on revenue of $586.18 million, compared with a profit of 40 cents a share on revenue of $528.3 million in the year-ago period. Autodesk is currently trading around $36.18 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 19.29 percent.

Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU) is a provider of business and financial-management solutions for small and midsize businesses, consumers, accounting professionals, and financial institutions. The company has a market cap of $16.35 billion. It is expected to report fiscal third-quarter EPS of $2.48 on revenue of $1.96 billion, compared with a profit of $2.33 a share on revenue of $1.85 billion in the year-ago period. Intuit is currently trading around $55.43 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 5.4 percent.

Aeropostale Inc. (NYSE: ARO) is a mall-based, specialty retailer of casual apparel and accessories. The company has a market cap of $1.61 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 13 cents on revenue of $487.14 million, compared with a profit of 20 cents a share on revenue of $469.18 million in the year-ago period. Aeropostale is currently trading around $19.76 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 29.57 percent.

Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (Nasdaq: MRVL) is a fabless semiconductor provider of application-specific standard products. The company has a market cap of $7.87 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 20 cents on revenue of $768.37 million, compared with a profit of 29 cents a share on revenue of $802.4 million in the year-ago period. Marvell is currently trading around $13.56 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 2.09 percent.

Applied Materials Inc. (Nasdaq: AMAT) provides manufacturing equipment, services, and software to the global semiconductor, flat-panel display, solar photovoltaic, and related industries. The company has a market cap of $14.28 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 24 cents on revenue of $2.39 billion, compared with a profit of 38 cents a share on revenue of $2.86 billion in the year-ago period. Applied Materials is currently trading around $11.06 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 3.27 percent.

Aruba Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: ARUN) connects local and remote users to corporate information-technology resources via distributed enterprise networks. The company has a market cap of $1.84 billion. Foot Locker Inc. (NYSE: FL) is a global retailer of athletic shoes and apparel. The company has a market cap of $4.46 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 74 cents on revenue of $1.55 billion, compared with a profit of 60 cents a share on revenue of $1.45 billion in the year-ago period. Foot Locker is currently trading around $29.34 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 23.07 percent.

Ann Inc. (NYSE: ANN) is a specialty retailer of women's apparel, shoes, and accessories sold primarily under the Ann Taylor and LOFT brands. The company has a market cap of $1.32 billion. It is expected to report first-quarter EPS of 51 cents on revenue of $560.21 million, compared with a profit of 51 cents a share on revenue of $523.23 million in the year-ago period. Ann is currently trading around $27.14 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 9.52 percent.
