4G LTE Tablet Shootout: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs Motorola Xoom

Come July 28 and Samsung's ultra-thin answer to Apple iPad 2, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, will be available on Verizon 4G LTE network.

Galaxy Tab 10.1, which has been named by Apple in its patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung - charged of "slavishly copying" its iOs devices, has changed the tablet landscape with its new svelte avatar.

It has not merely made Apple nervous but with its new thinner, lighter and faster mantra has left other Android tablets look archaic.

One such Android tablet, which has been rendered obsolete in terms of design, is Motorola Xoom - the star of CES 2011 in January. Motorola's flagship tablet Xoom was the first to feature Google's tablet specific OS, the Android 3.0 or Honeycomb. It packed in superlative hardware specifications to make the Apple iPad look like a minnow. But come March and Apple launched its super thin, faster and lighter iPad 2 and left Xoom looking like a relic from the past.

However, Xoom was still the best Android 3.0 or Honeycomb tablet around in March until Samsung arrived with its new Galaxy Tab 10.1 and changed the rule of the game in the crowded Android tablet market.

Motorola Xoom was the tablet to hold the promise of Verizon 4G LTE and Motorola had used the upcoming Verizon option as part of its marketing pitch. Xoom was due to receive hardware upgrades to fulfill the promise. However, after six months Xoom is still evading Verizon's LTE and instead the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has made its approach on the network, much to Motorola's dismay. Recently Reuters reported that Xoom will finally arrive on Verizon 4G LTE network in September.
