The “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie is slowly becoming a reality. After Sam Taylor-Johnson was announced as the director of the first film, all eyes and ears are on who will land one of the hottest sought-after roles in Hollywood … that of Christian Grey. While “Arrow” star Stephen Amell was said to have had a meeting regarding the role, “Vampire Diaries” actor Ian Somerhalder is still being questioned by fans about the kinky character.

“One can never get bored of people asking about a huge project,” Somerhalder, 34, told Metro Online. “Everyone has to realize every guy in Hollywood is up for this role. It could be anyone – that’s how that goes.” Somerhalder may be playing coy about the role, but “Fifty” devotees are bent on getting the “Vampire Diaries” bad boy to star in the film. Fans made their own trailer for the movie with Somerhalder as Christian Grey and “Pretty Little Liars” actress Lucy Hale as Anastasia Steele. The 30-second teaser trailer pieced together steamy scenes from both Somerhalder and Hale’s shows in an attempt to show “Fifty Shades” execs that the pair would sizzle on screen.

While “Fifty Shades” author E.L. James has insisted that execs are still a long way from casting, Somerhalder is on her radar. “I have some ideas,” she told the New York Post's Page Six in January about casting. “But it may not be who you expect.” Right around that time, a Twitter account called @BookishTemptations tweeted a line from James’ book along with a photo of Somerhalder. James responded to the tweet with a smiley face.

“Nothing is official yet,” Somerhalder said in October about the role of Christian Grey. “It’s just talk for now … We’ll have to wait and see.”
