55 Earnings Reports To Watch: Google, Microsoft, IBM, Bank Of America, Coca-Cola

Investors will hear from a string of multinational corporations beginning Monday.

Among companies reporting in the financial sector are big names such as Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.

Other major players set to report earnings in the coming week include Abbott Laboratories, Coca-Cola, General Electric, Google, Honeywell, IBM, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, McDonald's, Microsoft, PepsiCo and Verizon.

According to Alpha Now, earnings "preseason" results have historically been predictive of results for the remainder of an earnings season. When an above-average percentage of companies beats earnings estimates during the preseason, the rate at which the rest of the companies beat their own estimates tends to be higher, too, with two-thirds announcing higher-than-expected profits. But the opposite also holds true.

So far, 26 companies in the S&P 500 have reported earnings. Only 14 have reported profits that topped analysts’ estimates -- even after analysts sharply revised their projections downward and predicted that this could turn out to be one of the worst U.S. quarterly earnings seasons since late 2009. This rate of 54 percent is significantly below the long-term average of 63 percent, which suggests that investors may see fewer positive surprises than normal as more results come in.

Here's a list of 55 notable companies set to report their earnings Oct. 15-19. We've highlighted expected reporting dates and times, along with analysts' earnings-per-share and revenue estimates from Reuters, as well as the stocks' year-to-date performances.

Monday Before Market Open, or BMO:

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) is a global diversified financial-services holding company. The company has a market capitalization of $104.92 billion. It's expected to report FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 96 cents on revenue of $18.74 billion, compared with a profit of $1.23 a share on revenue of $20.83 billion in the year-ago period. Citigroup is trading at around $35.73 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 36 percent.

Gannett Co. Inc. (NYSE: GCI) is an international media and marketing-solutions company. The company has a market cap of $4.09 billion. It's expected to report FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 53 cents on revenue of $1.29 billion, compared with a profit of 44 cents a share on revenue of $1.27 billion in the year-ago period. Gannett is trading at around $17.69 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 32.3 percent.

Tuesday BMO:

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS) is a global investment-banking, securities and investment-management firm. The company has a market cap of $58.68 billion. It's expected to report FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of $2.14 on revenue of $6.41 billion, compared with a loss of 84 cents a share on revenue of $3.59 billion in the year-ago period. Goldman Sachs is trading at around $122.52 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 35.3 percent.

PNC Financial Services Group Inc. (NYSE: PNC) is a financial-services company. The company has a market cap of $34.37 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of $1.62 on revenue of $4.02 billion, compared with a profit of $1.55 a share on revenue of $3.54 billion in the year-ago period. PNC is trading at around $64.94 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 12.6 percent.

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) is engaged in the research and development, manufacture and sale of a range of products in the health-care field. The company has a market cap of $187.01 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of $1.21 on revenue of $16.93 billion, compared with a profit of $1.24 a share on revenue of $16 billion in the year-ago period. J&J is trading at around $67.99 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 3.7 percent.

The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO) is a beverage company. The company has a market cap of $171.75 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 50 cents on revenue of $12.38 billion, compared with a profit of 52 cents a share on revenue of $12.24 billion in the year-ago period. Coca-Cola is trading at around $38.14 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 9 percent.

UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH) is a diversified health and well-being company. The company has a market cap of $59.75 billion. It is expected to report FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of $1.31 on revenue of $27.61 billion, compared with a profit of $1.17 a share on revenue of $25.28 billion in the year-ago period. UnitedHealth is trading at around $57.86 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 14.2 percent.

State Street Corp.  (NYSE: STT) is a financial holding company. Through its subsidiaries, the company provides a range of financial products and services to institutional investors worldwide. State Street has a market cap of $20.19 billion. It's expected to report FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 96 cents on revenue of $2.37 billion, compared with a profit of 96 cents a share on revenue of $2.41 billion in the year-ago period. Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) designs and manufactures integrated digital technology platforms. The company has a market cap of $109.12 billion. It's expected to report FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 50 cents on revenue of $13.23 billion, compared with a profit of 65 cents a share on revenue of $14.23 billion in the year-ago period. Intel is trading at around $21.82 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 10 percent.

International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) is an information-technology company. The company has a market cap of $236.26 billion. It is expected to report FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of $3.61 on revenue of $25.38 billion, compared with a profit of $3.28 a share on revenue of $26.16 billion in the year-ago period. IBM is trading around $206.84 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 12.4 percent.

CSX Corp. (NYSE: CSX) is a transportation supplier. The company has a market cap of $22.13 billion. It is expected to report FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 43 cents on revenue of $2.94 billion, compared with a profit of 43 cents a share on revenue of $2.96 billion in the year-ago period. CSX is trading around $21.27 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 1.04 percent.

Wednesday BMO:

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) is a financial institution, serving individual consumers, small and middle-market businesses, corporations and governments with a range of banking, investing, asset-management and other financial and risk-management products and services. The company has a market cap of $100.79 billion. It's expected to report a loss of 7 cents a share in the third quarter of fiscal year 2012 on revenue of $21.95 billion, compared with a profit of 56 cents a share on revenue of $28.45 billion in the year-ago period. The company has a market cap of $13.48 billion. U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB) is a multistate financial-services holding company. The company has a market cap of $65.52 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 74 cents on revenue of $5.14 billion, compared with a profit of 64 cents a share on revenue of $4.74 billion in the year-ago period. Halliburton Co. (NYSE: HAL) is an oil-field-services company. The company has a market cap of $31.52 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 68 cents on revenue of $7.15 billion, compared with a profit of 94 cents a share on revenue of $6.55 billion in the year-ago period. Halliburton is trading at around $33.98 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 1.54 percent.

Knight Capital Group Inc. (NYSE: KCG) is a global financial-services firm that provides access to the capital markets across multiple asset classes to a network of clients, including buy- and sell-side firms as well as corporations. The trading firm said it lost $440 million when it sold all the stocks it accidentally bought on Aug. 1 because of a computer glitch. The resulting loss was nearly four times the company’s 2011 profit and brought the firm to the edge of bankruptcy. Knight survived only after a group of investors provided a $400 million lifeline. The company has a market cap of $244.54 million. It's expected to report a loss of $2.01 per share on $98.34 million in revenue, compared with a profit of 48 cents a share of revenue of $397.44 million in the year-ago period. Knight Capital is trading at around $2.50 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 78.9 percent.

M&T Bank Corp. (NYSE: MTB) is a bank holding company. The company has a market cap of $12.46 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of $1.85 on revenue of $1.07 billion, compared with a profit of $1.32 a share on revenue of $985.1 million in the year-ago period. AmEx is trading at around $58.47 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 23.8 percent.

EBay Inc. (Nasdaq: EBAY) is a global commerce platform. The company has a market cap of $61.29 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 55 cents on revenue of $3.4 billion, compared with a profit of 48 cents a share on revenue of $2.97 billion in the year-ago period. EBay is trading at around $47.58 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 56.8 percent.

Noble Corp. (NYSE: NE) is an offshore drilling contractor for the oil-and-gas industry. The company has a market cap of $9.06 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 51 cents on revenue of $912.09 million, compared with a profit of 49 cents a share on revenue of $737.9 million in the year-ago period. Noble is trading at around $35.84 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 18.63 percent.

SLM Corp. (Nasdaq: SLM) originates, services, and collects loans it makes to students and/or their parents to finance the cost of education. The company has a market cap of $8.13 billion. It's expected to report FY 2012 third-quarter EPS of 65 cents on revenue of $28.97 billion, compared with a profit of 56 cents a share on revenue of $27.91 billion in the year-ago period. Verizon is trading around $45.26 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 12.9 percent.

Fifth Third Bancorp (Nasdaq: FITB) is a diversified financial-services company. The company has a market cap of $14.62 billion.
