At least nine persons were killed and 45 others were injured as a power explosion rocked the Delhi High Court, India, on Wednesday, TV channels reported.

The explosion took place outside Gate No. 5 of the High Court at 10:15 a.m. IST. The Delhi Police cordoned off the area.

The injured were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and the High Court was evacuated.

The nature of the blast was unknown. Forensic experts reached the site and were examining the evidence. Disaster management team also rushed to the site.

Gate No. 5 is one of the busiest areas at the Delhi High Court. Passes are issued here for the litigants.

Court business is usually heavy on Wednesday which is listed as a Public Interest Litigation day when the visitors come to the court in large numbers.
