On Monday morning a 9-year-old boy went to Mabel Hoggard Elementary school to inform employees that his mother and sister were dead at their West Las Vegas home.

Police arrived at the house, only a few miles from the school, to find the bodies of a 10-year-old girl, her mother, a blood-covered father and a 4-year-old boy who remained unharmed. According to police officer Jacinto Rivera, the 9-year-old boy and the four people found inside the home were a single family.

The father reportedly suffered from a head injury and was taken to the hospital. Although not immediately identified as a suspect, he is being questioned by officials, reported the Associated Press.

Police are currently not releasing how or when the murders occurred, but a neighbor revealed to the Associated Press that she heard at least one gunshot Monday morning.

We got one shot at a homicide scene, said police spokesman Rivera. Our number one priority is to find out what happened. Right now we don't know what happened.

According to Clark County spokesman Erik Pappa, both young boys are currently in custody of child protective services as they seek to find a next of kin.
