August 25, 2009 marks the eight anniversary of the death of Aaliyah Dana Haughton who died when a plane she was in crashed shortly after take-off in the Bahamas.

The track More Than a Woman and one of last hits was released posthumously from her self-titled third LP.

Aaliyah was one of the finest young women I have ever worked with. She was a consummate professional, an amazing talent with limitless potential and, most importantly, an exceptional person, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who worked with the singer on the film Romeo Must Die, said in a statement after her death, MTV reported.

Her passing is a huge loss to her many friends here at Warner Bros. and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family and to those who loved her as we did, Bonaventura said.

Aaliyah began her music career at the age of 12 with R. Kelly as her mentor, lead songwriter and producer of her debut album Age Ain't Nothing But a Number sold two million copies in the United States and was certified double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
