The future of Adobe Contribute, Adobe Director and Shockwave are not just bleak; it’s already pitch black after the computer software company Adobe Systems announced the end for these three. The termination of the first two software marks the death of Macromedia.

Just last Friday, Adobe announced that it is no longer selling and supporting its multimedia application authoring platform Adobe Director and its web publishing and website management tool Adobe Contribute. The company stated that starting Feb. 1, 2017, these two software will no longer be up for grabs on the market.

The discontinuation of Adobe Director and Contribute makes the death of the Macromedia software official, as per 9To5Mac. It can be noted that Adobe acquired Macromedia back in 2005 and the latter was eventually dissolved. Adobe’s move to abandon Director and Contribute does not come as a surprise, knowing that the last time the former had an updated release was in 2013, while the latter’s last release was in 2012.

In addition, the end of the Macromedia software is part of Adobe’s effort to push people toward Creative Cloud. Adobe wants its users to jump into its new service that boasts of a collection of software for graphic design, video editing, web development, photography and cloud services.

“As customers embrace the new features and efficiencies offered by Creative Cloud, we will no longer be selling and supporting Adobe Director and Contribute, which was last released in 2012. Sale of Adobe Director and Contribute will stop on February 1, 2017,” Adobe wrote in its blog post.

Aside from discontinuing Adobe Director and Contribute, the company has also announced the end of its support for Adobe Shockwave on Mac. This means the software will no longer be receiving updates starting March 14, the day Adobe intends to stop selling the product.

“We appreciate the trust and support of Adobe Director, Contribute and Shockwave customers through the years, and look forward to providing our customers with the best user experience, technology and support through Adobe Creative Cloud,” Adobe finally said.
