The Affair Season 2 finale
The Season 2 finale of Showtime's "The Affair" will finally reveal who killed Scotty Lockhart (Colin Donnell). Showtime

Tonight's the night! After two crazy seasons of "The Affair," fans will finally learn who killed Scotty Lockhart (Colin Donnell). The Showtime series has managed to keep the murderer's identity a secret for a while now. There have been tons of clues pointing to a number of suspects — like Noah Solloway (Dominic West) and Alison Lockhart (Ruth Wilson) — but questions will finally be answered during the 70-minute Season 2 finale.

In October, Joshua Jackson (who plays Cole Lockhart) teased the killer's identity, saying that there are several different characters who are somehow involved.

“We’ve known right from the very beginning. The circumstance of it has changed slightly, and there was a brief time where it switched slightly. I’m good with the decision," he told Variety. "It’s less interesting to me who killed Scotty. It’s more interesting to me for what that means for the few characters who have direct knowledge of this event as they react to it. Obviously, there is one actor who is directly responsible; there are others who are indirectly responsible.”

Now that we know that a few of our favorite characters are keeping a deep, dark secret, let's try to see if we can figure out Scotty's killer ahead of the finale.

Killer: Noah Solloway

Motive: Noah is an obvious choice, that's why he's on trial for Scotty's murder. Noah doesn't like the Lockhart family, and he had major beef with Scotty because he impregnated his underage daughter, Whitney Solloway (Julia Goldani Telles ). In episode 3, Noah admitted he's thought about killing Scotty, but that doesn't mean he actually did it. Or did he?

Who else would know: Helen Solloway (Maura Tierney) and Max (Josh Stamberg)

Killer: Whitney Solloway

Motive: Whitney has had a hard time getting over Scotty. She's said several times throughout the season that she was in love with him, but Scotty has been doing his best to stay away from her. There's also the pregnancy mentioned above. Whitney was kind of forced into getting an abortion, and who knows if Scotty was even a tad bit excited about the baby? As you'll recall, Whitney also demanded Alison give her Scotty's number because she wanted to talk to him, and then she popped up on him and Cole outside their family home. We doubt Whitney would want to kill someone she loves so much, but then again maybe she was tired of being rejected by Scotty.

Who else would know: Helen and Noah

Killer: Alison Lockhart

Motive: Alison seems to be the only person who would really benefit from Scotty being dead. He knows a huge secret about her — presumably that Noah isn't the father of her daughter Joanie — and in a drunken stupor in episode 11, he threatened to tell Cole. He's also been a giant nuisance trying to get in on her business deal with Cole and Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno ). Fans also learned that Alison and Scotty had a fight/tense discussion about her baby. Maybe, for Alison, eliminating Scotty would also eliminate a few potential problems.

Who else would know: Noah and Cole, maybe Luisa

Killer: Helen Solloway

Motive: Maybe Helen has been playing everyone all along, and she's the one who ran Scotty down in Noah's car. Helen has stood by Noah's side throughout the trial, but is it all for show? It would be an interesting plot twist if Helen were seeking some dark revenge on Noah and is framing him for Scotty's murder. Why kill Scotty? He did get her daughter pregnant. Maybe Helen is using that to make it seem like her ex-husband had a reason to go after Scotty.

Who else would know: Margaret Butler (Kathleen Chalfant) and Max

Killer: Cole Lockhart

Motive: It's clear Cole and his brother don't have the best relationship. Cole thinks Scotty is a drunk who needs to get himself together. He also not happy his brother got Whitney pregnant. There's also the fact that Cole is tired of Scotty asking about his business deal with Luisa and Alison. Maybe at some point during the wedding, Scotty finally blabs Alison's secret to him and that causes Cole to snap. Cole as the killer seems a bit too obvious, however, and we can't actually see him being that cold-blooded.

Who else would know: Luisa and Alison
