The Affair season 2 episode 2 synopsis
Cole Lockhart's (Joshua Jackson) narrative will be introduced in episode 2 of Showtime's "The Affair." Showtime

"The Affair" kicked off its Season 2 premiere Sunday night, revealing that Noah Solloway (Dominic West) and Helen Solloway (Maura Tierney) are definitely moving forward with their divorce. The hour-long episode also revealed that Noah left his family and has been shacking up with his mistress Alison Lockhart (Ruth Wilson) in an upstate New York cabin.

In the show's second episode, airing Oct. 11, fans will get to see how Cole Lockhart (Joshua Jackson) has been handling things as a newly single man and from the looks of it, he's not doing too well. An official Showtime synopsis reads: "Alison's endemic summer with Noah is interrupted by an unwelcomed guest. Meanwhile, Cole's self-destructive lifestyle has everyone concerned."

It looks like that "unwelcomed guest" mentioned in the synopsis is Cole. In a sneak peek of episode 2, Cole is seen standing in the middle of Alison and Noah's living room and from the look on her face, Alison wasn't expecting to see her estranged husband there. Watch the clip below:

In another teaser Cole is seen in a flashback arguing with his brother Scotty Lockhart (Colin Donnell) over money problems. Scotty tells his brother that their mother is struggling to make ends meet, but Cole doesn't seem to care. He's more interested in getting out of Montauk, Long Island, as fast as possible. At the end of the clip, Cole threatens to run his brother over with his car.

Jackson previously told Collider that fans should expect to see a completely different Cole this season, especially when his narrative is introduced in the second episode.

“When we come back to him in episode 2, that should, I hope feel like, ‘Who is this guy because this doesn’t [look] anything like the man we used to know.’ Now, you’re seeing a person from the inside who is actually riddled with their own insecurities and those big, broad questions of who I am, what purpose do I have in life, who do I want to be, what is my life, and what’s my reason,” Jackson said.

Also in episode 2, fans will see Noah and Alison hit a rough patch in their relationship. In a third sneak peek video Noah gets angry with the former waitress when he thinks she read his unfinished book manuscript. He also becomes annoyed when Alison accepts a job as a personal assistant.
