“The Affair” Season 3, episode 9 saw Noah (Dominic West) finally getting the answers he’s been looking for in relation to his time in prison. Last Sunday night’s show featured a confrontation between Noah and Gunther (Brendan Fraser). In a shocking turn of events, Noah’s flashbacks about the physical brutality that happened to him at the hands of Gunther turned out to be hallucinations, which were constructed by his guilt after helping his mother commit suicide.

Episode 9 was draining and apparently very anticlimactic for Noah, having learned that his psyche was playing tricks on him. In the upcoming finale of the Showtime series however, things seem to be looking a tad lighter and more positive for Noah, who will find himself visiting Paris for Juliette (Irène Jacob). Noah’s new main squeeze is, of course, pleased with his presence in her life, especially at a time when unpleasant realities have begun shaking her home life.

In one of the sneak peeks Showtime dropped last weekend, Juliette can be seen approaching Noah inside a bar, where the twosome inevitably locked lips due to happiness. Noah then surprises Juliette with a present and greets the latter a “Merry Christmas!” This brings a smile to Juliette’s face. When Juliette tells Noah, “I don’t know what to say,” the protagonist retorts, “You’ve been so good to me. A few months ago I was on the brink and now, thanks to you, I’m OK.”

Unfortunately, the sweet moments between Noah and Juliette won’t last. A second promo clip shows Juliette’s friends seeing her and Noah kissing in public. Based on Juliette’s expression, she is not pleased with this encounter. The next scene also shows Juliette confronting Noah, saying, “You think you’re an expert on affairs because you wrote a book.” Her words clearly sting Noah, who leans back upon hearing them.

On the other hand, the synopsis for “The Affair” Season 3, episode 10 also hints at Noah healing from a broken relationship. The second promo clip makes it clear that Noah will patch things up with his daughter, Whitney (Julia Goldani Telles). Even before Noah and Helen’s (Maura Tierney) divorce, Whitney’s relationship with her parents had already been strained.

In the teaser clip, Whitney isn’t pleased to have bumped into Noah. However, a scene in the preview proves Noah to be the perfect man to stand up for his daughter. Whitney appears to have been physically assaulted in the trailer, and Noah is not letting the culprit get away with it. The preview does not show how Noah and Whitney patch things up, but Noah’s act of fatherly love could be the very reason for their broken relationship to heal.

The official synopsis of the finale episode reads: “Noah’s visit to Paris provides Juliette with a distraction from unpleasant realities at home. A chance encounter offers Noah the possibility of healing a relationship in desperate need of repair.”

“The Affair” Season 3, episode 10 is scheduled to air next Sunday, Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. EST. Tune in to Showtime to catch the finale.
