The Affair S309
Helen (Maura Tierney) is on the verge of spilling the truth about Scotty's (Colin Donnell) death in the new episode of "The Affair" Season 3. Showtime

In last week’s “The Affair” Season 3, episode 8, the two ex-Mrs. Solloways met at a bar in Montauk and compared notes about their relationship with Noah (Dominic West). At one point, Helen (Maura Tierney) almost divulged that she was driving the car that killed Scotty (Colin Donnell). Alison (Ruth Wilson) was also on the verge of telling the other that she was the one who pushed Scotty into the road. Will the two ladies get the chance to finally tell other what they have been wanting to say in Sunday night’s episode 9?

The promotional clip for “The Affair Season 3, episode 9 shows a guilty Helen telling Margaret (Kathleen Chalfant) that she had killed someone. However, Helen’s mother quickly responds by slapping her face. Margaret is obviously not pleased with her daughter’s words. “Don’t you ever say that again,” Margaret warns Helen as tears start to well in her eyes.

If Showtime’s synopsis for the new episode is telling fans something, it’s the fact that Helen is now battling with her guilt following Scotty’s demise. She will also suffer an identity crisis. Will this lead her to confessing to Alison? The trailer gives a sneak peek at the night Helen was driving the car that hit Scotty. At one point she says, “I don’t know how to live with this.” Perhaps she’s finally spilling the beans this week.

Elsewhere, Noah will have to face the repercussions of the things he has done. The synopsis even says his world will collapse in episode 9, and this will push him to do something “horrific.” In the teaser trailer, an angry Noah threatens John (Brendan Fraser) with a pair of scissors as he tells the latter, “You need to leave me alone. You hate me cuz I got out.” In another scene, Noah seems to be overcome with his pent-up emotions as tears flood his face.

Meanwhile, Wilson recently opened up to Deadline about playing Alison. “I think this year’s been interesting on ‘The Affair,’ because I think maybe I am slightly more guarded, and there’s a lot of internal life going on with the character that’s not so open,” the actress said. “It’s more sort of, you’ve got to come here to get what you want.”

At the end of the trailer for this week’s episode, Alison says, “We can’t save each other. We can only save our selves.” Does this mean Wilson was giving fans a hint on what her character intends to do next?

The official synopsis for “The Affair” Season 3, episode 9 reads: “Helen’s escape to Montauk exacerbates her guilt and hastens an identity crisis: should the truth finally come out? Noah’s world collapses leaving him to process something horrific.” Based on the synopsis and the trailer, there are a lot of things to look forward to in the Jan. 22 episode. Tune in to Showtime at 10 p.m. EST, so as not to miss the hour-long show this Sunday.
