The Affair Season 3
“The Affair” Season 2 left off with Noah (Dominic West) going to prison, and Sunday’s Season 3 premiere will focus on life after his release. Showtime

The wait is almost over! Showtime’s “The Affair” is just a few hours away from its Season 3 premiere. It’s already been revealed that the new episodes will take place three years after Noah’s shocking confession.

Since it’s been a while — 11 long months to be exact — since that crazy Season 2 finale aired, we figured a quick refresher of everything that happened between Noah (Dominic West), Alison (Ruth Wilson) and Helen (Maura Tierney) would help fans prepare for Sunday night’s show.

In the Season 2 finale, fans finally learned who killed Scotty Lockhart (Colin Donnell). His mysterious death was something that spanned across both Season 1 and Season 2. Although the show made it seem like Noah was the culprit, the finale revealed that two other characters committed the crime.

The finale kicked off at Cole (Joshua Jackson) and Luisa’s (Catalina Sandino Moreno) wedding. In Noah’s point-of-view, his wife Alison was acting strange the entire ceremony. She seemed distracted and bolted in the middle of Cole and Luisa exchanging vows. When Noah went after her, she decided to drop a bombshell on him: that Joanie might not be his daughter. She hooked up with her ex-husband Cole around the time Joanie was conceived.

Noah was mad and stormed off, telling Alison he never wanted to talk to her again. He went to the bar, where he ran into his ex-wife Helen. Noah and Helen made their way down to the beach, where they reminisced about the good times in their marriage. By the time they left, Helen was drunk so she made Noah drive. But as he was driving, Noah started to have flashback of all the ugly fights he’s had with his loved ones. Noah was in no shape to drive, so he pulled the car over and made an inebriated Helen get in the driver’s seat.

As Helen was driving down the extremely foggy and dark road, Noah reached over and grabbed her hand causing Helen to take her eyes off the road. That’s when the car hit something big and heavy. Helen thought it was a deer, but Noah got out to check and discovered Scotty’s body lying in the middle of the road. Noah started crying, but told Helen that he’s going to take care of everything.

In Alison’s narrative, fans got a little more information about how Scotty ended up in the middle of the road. Her point-of-view revealed that Scotty, who had just completed rehab, had started drinking again because Cole was being a jerk to him. Alison tried to get Scotty to put the bottle down, but he angrily told her to go away or he would spill her baby daddy secret. Alison was scared Scotty would ruin things, so she found Noah and broke the news to him.

Alison then ran off and started walking down the dimly lit road. Scotty, who was very drunk at that point, was also on the road and tried to rape Alison. They got into a struggle, and Alison accidentally pushed him into the middle of the road as Noah and Helen were driving by. In Alison’s version of things, Noah spotted her when he got out of the car, and she told him what happened with her and Scotty.

So how did Noah end up taking the fall? During his trial for Scotty’s murder, Noah was informed that Detective Jeffries (Victor Williams) had information that placed Alison at the scene of the crime. To keep the detective from taking the stand, Noah stood up in the middle of court and said he killed Scotty.

In a trailer (seen above) for Season 3, fans see that Noah is struggling to get himself together after his prison stint. The once-famous author is now broke, living with his sister and teaching a writing class at a local University.

“The Affair” Season 3 premieres Sunday at 10 p.m. EST on Showtime.
