More than a month after Sara Leal alleged that she slept with actor Ashton Kutcher, his wife Demi Moore has announced that she will be divorcing her husband of six years.

The rumors of Kutcher's infidelity have been circulating for months, but Moore, 49, issued an official statement to The Associated Press on Thursday announcing the divorce.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton, Moore's statement to The AP read. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation.

Soon after Moore's announcement, Kutcher, 33, took to Twitter to talk about the failed marriage. The pair often used Twitter to communicate with each other.

I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi, Kutcher tweeted. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail.

Both Moore and Kutcher have remained silent as to why their marriage has failed.

One thing is for certain, since Leal announced that Kutcher cheated on Moore with her in San Diego on Sept. 24, and when pictures of Leal and Kutcher partying together surfaced shortly after, both Moore and Kutcher have been under constant watch as people anticipated an end to their marriage.

Sources told Us Weekly in October that Kutcher had shared a hot tub rendezvous on Sept. 24, the day of his wedding anniversary, at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, Calif. Reports were that Moore was in New York promoting her new Lifetime movie Five.

That report noted that Kutcher met Leal, a 23-year-old blonde at the Fluxx nightclub shortly after 4 a.m., after which he allegedly escorted her and her friend to his hotel suite. Sources told the magazine that's where they jumped into the hot tub, naked within minutes.

Here is what Leal alleged happened:

1. They had unprotected sex.

2. Kutcher claimed he and Moore were separated.

3. He described the one night stand as a rare real moment.

4. They argued over Leal's cell phone

5. Leal insists it was the first time she's ever had a one night stand.

He was good, Leal told Us Weekly of Ashton's performance. It wasn't weird or perverted.

He just came up and kissed me.

I didn't think it was out of the ordinary, Leal told Us Weekly. I wasn't self-conscious about getting naked.

Moore and Kutcher hit it off in 2003 when they met. She was 41 and he was 25.

If somebody would have said, 'OK, here is the prediction: You're going to meet a man 25 years old and he's going to see being with you and having your three kids as a bonus,' I would have said, 'Keep dreaming,' Moore said in a 2007 interview with Vanity Fair. I think it caught us both by surprise, and particularly him.

In February 2005, the couple had a romantic getaway in Cabo San Lucas. Rumors began circulating that they were either engaged or married. But they denied those rumors. Finally in September that year, Moore and Kutcher tied the knot in a Kabbalah ceremony in front of Moore's daughters, her ex-husband Bruce Willis and more than 90 others at their Beverly Hills home.

By last December, Kutcher found himself battling negative press amidst cheating allegations. That month Vivid Entertainment marketed a sex tape that featured Brittney Jones, a woman who claimed that had a fling with Kutcher while Moore was out of town.

But Kutcher denied that rumor.

That same year, he created the DNA Foundation, which is also known as the Demi and Ashton Foundation, to fight the exploitation of girls around the world.

The AP has reported that no divorce papers have been filed in Los Angeles Superior Court as of Thursday afternoon.
