“Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 has been rough for Skye (Chloe Bennet) and Ward (Brett Dalton). After months of being held captive, Ward would only talk to Skye. When she finally spoke to him, he promised the information he gave her on Hydra was correct.

“It’s true and so will be every word I say to you for the rest of my life,” Ward promised her in Season 2, episode 1.

So far, Ward hasn’t lied to her yet, but he has made some decisions she doesn’t like. Skye, like a lot of fans, isn’t sure whom Ward is fighting for. It seemed that he was helping S.H.I.E.L.D. by giving them information and capturing Bakshi. But then he killed his brother in a fire, rejoined Hydra and took Skye hostage. It’s confusing for anyone.

“Pick a side,” Skye said after Ward told her she was being taken to Hydra.

“Oh don’t worry. I have,” Ward said.

So, what is that side? Actor Brett Dalton doesn’t think it’s as simple as S.H.I.E.L.D. vs. Hydra for Ward. “I think that he is trying to fulfill his promise to Skye, which he has been good on since we picked up in his storyline in Season 2,” Dalton told Newsarama. “Yeah, every man has his own code, and he seems to be completely living by that. He has a single-minded pursuit this season of fulfilling his promise, and honestly, I think that the words ‘promise’ and ‘Skye’ have been in every episode he’s been in this season. And ‘Skye’s Father.’ So he seems pretty single-minded in his pursuit this season. So that’s who he’s working for, he’s working for himself!”

If Ward is working for himself, he is doing what he wants -- and he might want Skye. While Ward clearly isn’t doing what Skye wants, he might think that he doing what Skye needs. It doesn’t seem as though he could personally benefit from introducing Skye to her birth father, which will happen in episode 10. However, it might be Ward’s way of taking care of Skye.

That might not matter to Skye. He betrayed her once, and it'll be hard for her to forgive him. “She’s not his biggest fan,” executive producer Jed Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. “Everybody has a reason for being the way they are. Ward has his. Whether or not she can reconcile that with his actions, that’s the question. Right now, it feels like she can’t.”

Fans will see if reuniting Skye with her father will earn Ward any redemption in “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2, episode 10. Judging from the promo, Skye won’t exactly be in a forgiving mood. Ward might have to work for a long time if winning Skye’s trust is his goal.

“Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2, episode 10 airs Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC. Do you think Ward wants Skye’s trust or is he actually just evil? Sound off in the comments section below!
