“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3 will answer one cliffhanger very quickly. Elizabeth Henstridge has revealed that viewers will soon know where her character Simmons was taken in the Season 2 finale.

“It’s so much bigger than I thought it would be,” Henstridge teased to Zap2It. “What it is, I thought about it and was like, ‘How would they do that? How would they film that?’ I just dismissed everything in the realm of this idea. It’s very cool.”

In the Season 2 finale, Simmons was absorbed into a Kree rock, the monolith. It wasn't clear what happened, but news of her upcoming storyline makes it clear that she isn't dead. Although fans will get to know her location soon, that doesn’t necessarily mean that she is on a short trip. In fact, it looks like many months have passed between the finale and the premiere.

“There’s a big time jump,” actress Chloe Bennet added. “I feel like everyone’s almost come to terms with [Simmon’s disappearance] in their own way, except for Fitz [Iain De Caestecker].”

In May, Clark Gregg (Coulson) assumed that the whole team would be looking for the biochemist. “I wouldn’t limit it to Fitz,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Everyone will be very upset and concerned after they figure out what happened. I would suspect our team would not take this lightly and will do everything they can to figure out what happened.”

However, they may have done everything they can in the time between the finale and the Season 3 premiere. It looks like Fitz will be the one leading the search for his lab partner. Last time Simmons left Fitz to go undercover, he started having hallucinations of her. Hopefully, he’ll be able to cope with this a little more easily, but Fitz will definitely be more dedicated to finding Simmons than anyone else.

“It’s Fitz’s mission to get Simmons back. It’s a solo mission. What happened was so crazy and there was no trace of her, that what do you do?” Henstridge explained to Zap2It. “She disappeared into this rock that goes to liquid sometimes, but we don’t know why and we don’t know when. I think that the whole team has tried and nothing has worked, so at some point you have to go, ‘She’s gone, we have to move on.’ But Fitz refuses to do that.”

Of course, Fitz refuses to give up because he loves Simmons. The two agreed to go on a date just before Simmons left, and her disappearance is just another obstacle for the scientists to overcome. “The idea of getting Fitz and Simmons — who had been one person — to become two whole people, come back together, agree to go on a date, and then have this happen, felt beautifully poetic and promises some really intriguing stories next season, which is really what it’s all about,” showrunner Jeffrey Bell told Variety in May.

FitzSimmons shippers are hoping that those "intriguing stories" allow the couple to pick up right where they left off, but several months in a strange location could might change Simmons. Fans will have to tune in to Season 3 to see if the two still have a chance to be together.
