Fitz kept a pretty big secret from his girlfriend Simmons in “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4. He didn’t tell her that Radcliffe was working on Life Model Decoys (LMDs), but she didn’t seem too upset when she initially found out. However, with Aida’s dark side coming out, there could be some trouble ahead.

Executive producer Jed Whedon warned TVLine that Aida’s (Mallory Jansen) new motives “will have some ripple effect, because [Fitz] did that without [Simmons’] knowledge. So they’ll have to get over some hurdles.”

Will Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) ever be able to overcome those challenges? Unlike many other relationships on the ABC drama, it seems the writers aren’t trying to keep viewers guessing here. “But theirs is a forever love,” Whedon assured audiences.

Though their relationship is strong enough to survive, other romances might be troubled once they realize Aida has gone rogue. In particular, Coulson (Clark Gregg) and May’s (Ming-Na Wen) growing romance might hit the brakes. After all, finding out she is actually an LMD while the real May is locked in a closet is more than a small relationship hurdle.

It seems like Coulson’s feelings will develop further before he realizes that May isn’t actually the May he loves. The synopsis for Season 4, episode 9, titled “Broken Promises,” reveals that he is still in the dark. “Though Coulson and May are growing closer, Coulson remains unaware of the dark secret May is hiding beneath the surface. Meanwhile, Aida is unrelenting in her search for the Darkhold,” the summary reveals.

While they might remain unsuspicious of May, they will start to notice changes in Aida. A sneak-peek video for episode 9, seen at the top of this page, reveals that the LMD will override Radcliffe’s (John Hannah) controls when he tries to turn her off.

The winter premiere of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4 airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
