Movie lovers everywhere are mourning the loss of the beloved British actor Alan Rickman. The Emmy-winning performer, best known for his portrayal of Professor Severus Snape in “Harry Potter,” died of cancer at the age of 69. In addition to leaving behind a legacy in the world of film, the late great actor is also remembered for his inspirational quotes — some which fans have shared on Twitter while commemorating Rickman’s life.

However, not all of the statements being tweeted out have come from Rickman. In fact, there's one quote in particular being attributed to the actor that's actually fake.

Although the quote is sweet, it’s also bogus. According to Metro, the well-shared quote originated from a fan's Tumblr account in 2010.

While the quote may be fake, “Harry Potter” fans can sense familiarity behind the statement, which is a reference to a line from author J.K. Rowling’s final book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which was published in 2007, and the same-named film that was released in 2011.

In a scene between Severus and Professor Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon), the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry learns the true feelings that Severus shares for Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and his mother when the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher casts an Expecto Patronum spell. The spell reveals Severus has always cared for Lily Potter and her son.

“After all this time?” Dumbledore asks, questioning if his old friend has always remained loyal to Lily.

“Always,” he responds.
