The award for most inventive marriage proposal goes to Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Cobb.

Cobb, 26, planned to propose to his girlfriend Kelly Reynolds, but wanted to do more than just hand her a ring. That’s when a friend suggested that he propose to her during a trip to Discovery Cove, an aquatic theme park in Orlando, Fla., the Tampa Bay Times reports.

On Saturday, the Rays pitcher took Reynolds to Discovery Cove, where the pair spent the day with the park’s resident dolphins. But it turns out that one friendly bottlenose was in on Cobb’s plans.

Cobb had a dolphin swim up to Reynolds with a buoy that revealed the real reason for the couple’s trip to Discovery Cove—“Kelly, will you marry me?” Reynolds broke down into tears of joy and immediately accepted Cobb’s proposal.

“She was totally surprised,” Cobb told the Tampa Bay Times. “The whole thing was awesome.”

“She said yes to the dolphin,” he added. “I never asked her yet.”

Soon after, Cobb and Reynolds, who have been dating for four years, walked over to a nearby cabana, where the Rays pitcher presented the engagement ring in more traditional fashion. To complete the scene, he secretly contacted Reynold’s mother and father so they’d be present during the big moment.

They’ve yet to set an official wedding date, but the event will likely take place after the 2015 MLB season, the Times notes.
