Amid growing rumors that Amal Clooney and George Clooney are facing marriage troubles, a new report has now claimed that the human rights lawyer was "devastated" after her husband refused to protect her. According to National Enquirer, George refused to accompany his wife to Maldives, where she was to lobby for the release of imprisoned ex-President Mohammed Nasheed.

According to the report, Amal asked her husband to “keep her safe” on the trip because terrorists supposedly “had their sights set on killing [her].” But “George refused, which devastated Amal,” a source told the tabloid.

However, Gossip Cop debunked the report, saying that Amal never asked George to travel with her to Maldivies as the actor was busy with his work.

The news comes amid rumors that Amal and George are undergoing marital issues. The couple was also reported to have been fighting over the actor's plans to have plastic surgery.

According to Star Magazine, George wants to go under the knife as he is concerned about the way his face looks, and Amal isn't happy about it.

George and Amal got married in Venice, Italy, on Sept. 27, 2014. Over the last few months, several rumors have surfaced about Amal and George's marriage.

Last month, Star magazine reported the couple had a “clash” at the Cannes Film Festival earlier in May and it was evident that they had been fighting the whole day. In March, it was reported that George may be cheating on his wife as he was seen affectionately embracing and kissing a woman in California while Amal was not around. However, both the rumors were later debunked by Gossip Cop.
