Glamour model Amber Rose will be staging a “Slut Walk” on Oct. 3 as part of her awareness campaign against sexual violence against women and victim-blaming. She snagged a victory for her cause when rapper Nicki Minaj donated $5,000 to the event earlier this week. The event will be held at Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles.

According to a report on Hot New Hip Hop published on Tuesday, Rose is looking to raise $45,000 to stage her “Slut Walk” in Los Angeles later this year. She is now $5,000 closer to her goal, thanks to a generous donation by her friend and hip-hop superstar, Nicki Minaj. The same report states that the rapper’s donation has helped Rose raise approximately $30,000 to date.

The Amber Rose “Slut Walk” is not the first event of its kind to be staged in various places around the globe. According to website LAist, the movement began back in 2011 after a Canadian police officer told a group of female college students that they should not dress like sluts if they do not want to be victimized.

The comment caused massive outrage and protests have been staged in numerous dates and places worldwide. The events have been dubbed “Slut Walks” and are aimed towards eradicating gender inequality, violence against women, slut-shaming and rape, among other feminist themes.

Other supporters of the cause may also place their donations at the event’s website. According to the page, the funds will be used to stage the event, which offers services such as HIV testing and sexual awareness education. Other booths will be occupied by food vendors. The Amber Rose Foundation will receive the funds and use them to help “groups and organizations of women who have been subject to slut shaming, a lack of implication of double standards, sexual assault and even rape.”
