FX Networks/FX Productions CEO John Landgraf is confident that “American Crime Story” Season 3 will still focus on hurricane Katrina.

While at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Wednesday, Landgraf was asked about the future of “Katrina,” since the installment was set aside so creator Ryan Murphy could release “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” first.

“It was a difficult decision, because we were far along in one creative direction… but the bar is really high for this franchise, and we just weren’t confident we were going to get over it. And simultaneously, there was an idea for a creative pivot, which I’m going to let Ryan announce to you when he feels the right time to do it. I think you’ll see when he does that it’s a really, really exciting idea, and I’m now more confident about it creatively than I was before we made this pivot,” he said.

In June, it was announced that FX and Murphy were reshuffling the order of the upcoming two installments of “American Crime Story.” Even though production and casting for “Katrina” took place ahead of “Versace,” Murphy said that the hurricane-centered installment will be moved to next year.

According to Deadline, it is still unclear whether or not the actors who signed on for “Katrina” will still be able to commit to their roles. Annette Bening, Matthew Broderick and Dennis Quaid were previously cast in major roles for “Katrina.”

While at the Television Critics Association winter press tour earlier this year, Landgraf explained why they felt it was necessary to push “Katrina” back. “It’s taken us time, frankly, to get material we’re happy with for Katrina. When you’re shooting in New Orleans, you have to worry about hurricanes. You can only shoot there during certain times of the year,” he said.

Meanwhile, “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” will center on the death of famed designer Gianni Versace, who was killed in his Miami home in 1997. Actor Edgar Ramirez will play the role of Versace. “Glee” alum Darren Criss will give life to the character of Andrew Cunanan, the person responsible for assassinating Versace.

“The Assassination of Gianni Versace” will premiere on FX this year.
