Could “American Horror Story” be adding more historical figures in season 3, “Coven”? That’s one of the theories thanks to a casting update on IMDB. The movie database site has a full cast and crew list for episode 1 of “Coven,” and while character names have not been officially confirmed, it does fuel some theories about potential roles.

As we previously reported, Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett will be playing historical figures in season 3 of the FX mini-series. Bates will be portraying Madame Delphine LaLaurie -- a real life serial killer who terrorized Louisiana in the 1800s -- and Bassett will be playing Marie Laveau, a New Orleans voodoo priestess.

For those unfamiliar with the haunting tale of Delphine LaLaurie, she was a member of prominent social circles in the French Quarter and accused of mistreating her slaves. Although she denied all accusations of ill behavior towards her slaves, a fire at her home on April 10, 1834 exposed the public to the gruesome truth.

Numerous slaves were said to be found locked in a room … and all of them were “horribly mutilated.” Tru TV reported that the room had the “unmistakable odor of death” and was scattered with body parts, organs and severed heads. Victims were said to have had their arms mutilated and skin peeled off, and there were reports of a woman mutilated to look like a human crab and a man surgically transformed into a woman. Madame LaLaurie is believed to have fled to Paris after an angry mob attacked her French Quarter mansion.

As for Angela Bassett’s character, Marie Laveau was a well-respected voodoo priestess in New Orleans during the 19th century. According to the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum, Laveau became known as the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans, saying prayers and mixing together different concoctions to grant people wishes.

But what about the potential new historical characters? Based on the (non-confirmed) IMDB listing for actress Jennifer Lynn Warren and Ashlynn Ross, it sounds like they could be playing the children of Kathy Bates’ Madame LaLaurie.

The site reports that Warren will be playing Borquita, while Ross will be tackling the role of Marie Louise Jeanne. So, who were Borquita and Marie Louise Jeanne?

Delphine LaLaurie had one child with her first husband, Don Ramon de Lopez y Angullo, a high ranking Spanish officer. Don Ramon died in 1804, reportedly the same year that his daughter, Marie Borgia Delphine Lopez y Angulla de la Candelaria, was born. She was nicknamed Borquita, allegedly after her paternal grandmother.

A couple years later in 1808, Delphine LaLaurie married Jean Blanque, a banker, lawyer and legislator in New Orleans. While with Blanque, Delphine LaLaurie had four more children – Marie Louise Pauline, Louise Marie Laure, Marie Louise Jeanne, and Jeanne Pierre Paulin Blanque. Jean Blanque passed away in 1816, and in 1825 Delphine LaLaurie married physician Leonard Nicolas LaLaurie -- which is how she became known as Madame Delphine LaLaurie.

The synopsis for “Coven” teases that the Salem witches that survived the Salem Witch Trials are still alive … so could we possibly be seeing Madame LaLaurie’s children in modern day? Or maybe through flashbacks? Let us know what you think!

“American Horror Story: Coven” premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. on FX.

(NOTE: As mentioned, the character names for Jennifer Lynn Warren and Ashlynn Ross have not been confirmed. Therefore it’s possible that they will not be playing Madame LaLaurie’s children. This article is just a theory and based purely on speculation.)
