“American Horror Story” has been scaring audiences for the past couple years, and Season 5 of the FX anthology series will be no different. The writers have cooked up a terrifying new season … and it sounds straight out of a nightmare.

Executive Producer Ryan Murphy previously revealed that the fifth installment is titled “Hotel.” However, he’s kept mum about what fans can expect. With filming scheduled to begin in the next couple of weeks, Murphy is finally coming clean about the frightening plotline.

“It’s based in the hotel in horror movies and horror tropes,” Murphy dished to Deadline. “We’ve researched several real-life hotels in Downtown LA where absolutely horrifying things happened. ‘Murder House’ I thought it was a very primal season because everybody’s great fear is about the bogeyman under the bed in their house, and this feels similar to me in that when you can check into a hotel, there are certain things beyond your control.”

Murphy continued, saying that Season 5 is “much more dark” than Season 4. Fans can look forward to a “bloodier and grislier” installment. “It’s straight horror this year,” he promised.

Although actress Jessica Lange won’t be around for “Hotel,” Murphy has an impressive group of stars to bring the story to life. Check out the full cast list for Season 5 so far:

Angela Bassett: This will be Bassett’s third season with “American Horror Story.” All that’s known about her “Hotel” character is that she’ll be “making lots of trouble with Lady Gaga in the ballroom and elsewhere.”

Kathy Bates: Bates will be entering her third season with “AHS,” first appearing in “Coven.” This year she’ll be “running the hotel.”

Wes Bentley: Wes Bentley made his debut on the series as the ghost Edward Mordrake. The actor will return in Season 5 as a series regular.

Matt Bomer: Bomer first appeared in Season 4, “Freak Show.” This season he’ll be involved in a love triangle with co-stars Lady Gaga and Finn Wittrock.

Lady Gaga: No singing for this pop superstar, but Lady Gaga will have a large role.

Max Greenfield: Murphy promises that you’ll see the “New Girl” star “like you’ve never seen him.” But unfortunately things don’t sound good for Greenfield … because he’s “not checking out.”

Cheyenne Jackson: Season 5 will be Cheyenne Jackson’s first go-around in the “AHS” universe. His character is under wraps.

Denis O’Hare: Denis O’Hare is coming back! Murphy confirmed the news to Deadline, but he didn’t provide any teasers about his character.

Sarah Paulson: The longtime “American Horror Story” star will be “the baddest bad girl of them all” in Season 5.

Evan Peters: Peters has been with the FX anthology series from the start. This year he’ll have an “evil” role, and it will somehow involve Room 64.

Chlöe Sevigny: “Hotel” will be Sevigny’s second season with “American Horror Story.” This year she’ll be a series regular.

Finn Wittrock: Will Wittrock be good or evil this year? The actor, who starred as psychotic killer Dandy in “Freak Show,” will be entangled with Lady Gaga's and Matt Bomer’s characters.
