“American Horror Story” fans have been waiting on baited breath for Finn Wittrock to appear in Season 6. Anticipation grew after creator Ryan Murphy teased details about the character, calling it the actor’s most disturbing role to date.

Wittrock finally arrived on the scene during Season 6, episode 7, but was largely unnoticed by fans otherwise distracted by The Butcher/Agnes Mary Winstead (Kathy Bates), ghost pilgrims and that head-smashing incident — rest in peace, Matt (André Holland). As Vanity Fair points out, Wittrock appeared in one of the final moments of episode 7 and was largely kept out of the frame. His character Cain — one of the cannibal Polk boys — can be scene surrounding Lee (Adina Porter) with Mama Polk (Frances Conroy) and another member of the family played by Robin Weigert. Wittrock can be seen holding a camera high in the air trying to capture the disturbing happenings on film to relive at a later date.

During Wednesday’s episode “American Horror Story,” fans got one step closer to learning who the lone survivor of the faux reality show “Return to Roanoke” will be. The rest of the cast learned that Rory (Evan Peters) had been mysteriously killed, but struggled to find his missing body — that is, until they ventured into the woods surrounding the farmhouse. They then discovered that he wasn’t the only one who wouldn’t live to see the outside world again. Sidney (Cheyenne Jackson) and several other members of the production team were also murdered, their bodies picked at by crows.

“American Horror Story” viewers also bid farewell to Matt, though his death was far less of a mystery. After he reconnected with Shelby (Lily Rabe) following her narrow escape from Agnes’ clutches, Matt was called to the basement of the house by Scathach (Lady Gaga). Dominic (Cuba Gooding Jr.) discovered him, seizing the opportunity to tell Shelby and win her back. She was furious — more so after her husband told her that the witch is the whole reason he agreed to participate in the show. Shelby promptly grabbed a crowbar and smashed in his skull.

Meanwhile Lee, Monet (Angela Bassett) and Audrey (Sarah Paulson) were captured by the Polks. They were carted off to their grow house where they feared they’d be immediately killed. Instead, Mama and her minions chowed down on Lee’s leg — but not before seasoning it first!

Wittrock’s disturbing role in the Polk family was teased by Murphy in an October interview with E! News ahead of Season 6, episode 6, in which the twist was revealed for the first time. During the sit down he shared that Wittrock and former “American Horror Story: Coven” star Taissa Farmiga were making appearances in upcoming episodes. Murphy suggested that Wittrock’s role was “his most f---ed up character” yet, adding that even the actor wasn’t sure he couldn’t handle it.

“Finn Wittrock is coming back soon, playing his most f---ed up character of all time,” he said. “To the point where he was like, ‘This is so crazy that I don’t know if I can do it, but I’ll do it.’ And Taissa Farmiga is coming back for the first time ever since ‘Coven,’ in I think a really, really great part and we love her.”

It’s not clear where “American Horror Story” Season 6 is heading, but viewers should very much look forward to more cannibal craziness and bloodshed. Tune in Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
