A majority of Americans don't believe that the bailout for banks has worked, according to a new poll.

Sixty-one percent of respondents to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Friday don't want additional government money for financial companies. Thirty-eight were in favor of helping the banks, the poll said.

The poll involved 1,245 adult Americans. The poll was taken just ahead of Thursday's vote by the Senate to release the funds for the bailout program.

The poll found that more than eight in 10 believed that spending the first $350 million of the $700 million did not work, Polling director at CNN Keating Holland told the news site. Only 14 percent believed the money did what it was meant to.
