“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 has tapped Tyra Banks to be its new host.

According to TV Line, the “America’s Next Top Model” creator and judge will be replacing Nick Cannon as the hit reality TV show’s host. Filming for the new episodes is set to take place this month. Banks will be joining resident judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Mel B and Heidi Klum.

On his Twitter account, Mandel posted a short video confirming Banks’ involvement in “America’s Got Talent” Season 12.

Meanwhile, Cannon, who hosted the NBC reality TV show from 2009 to 2016, decided to part ways with the franchise last month. Mariah Carey’s ex-husband received backlash from the network over a joke he made during one of his standup comedy gigs on Showtime. After he was criticized by the network executives, Cannon also received word that they are thinking of firing him. Before they could do so, Cannon resigned from “America’s Got Talent.”

In a lengthy Facebook post, Cannon said that he doesn’t want to be like other people who are silenced by big businesses and corporations. As such, he has decided to say goodbye to the show that he has loved for seven years to make a stand. He concluded the post by quoting Dr. King, who said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.”

In other news, the producers of “America’s Got Talent” Season 12 recently went around the United States to conduct auditions. After auditions wrapped up, it was announced that interested applicants may submit their videos and bio data for Season 13 via the show’s official website.

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 will premiere on NBC sometime in May.
