Darci Lynne Farmer’s first shot at fame did not happen on “America’s Got Talent” Season 12.

Mel B’s golden buzzer recipient previously appeared in Steve Harvey’s show, “Little Big Shots,” last year. At the time, the 11-year-old ventriloquist brought along a different puppet, whose name wasn’t revealed. During her audition in “America’s Got Talent” Season 12, Farmer brought a bunny named Petunia along with her. In “Little Big Shots” and “AGT,” Farmer impressed everyone with her singing voice, as well as her ventriloquism skills.

According to Gold Derby, Farmer is the frontrunner to win “America’s Got Talent” Season 12. As of late, her audition video has been viewed the most times among the contestants for this season. Even the other golden buzzer recipients, namely, Mandy Harvey, Christian Guardino and the Light Balance dancers, did not receive over 200 million views on YouTube. The publication also noted that Farmer could be the third ventriloquist to win “America’s Got Talent,” following in the footsteps of Terry Fator and Paul Zerdin.

Meanwhile, Farmer’s parents spoke with KFOR following her audition and said that they got her a puppet to help overcome her shyness. Initially, Farmer’s parents did not like the idea of giving her a puppet, but because of her persistence, she was able to convince them that it would be a good idea. “Actually, her dad and I discouraged the puppet for a long time. It was her persistence. That’s what told us how passionate she was about it,” Clarke Farmer said.

Her mom, Misty Farmer, said at the time that things still haven’t sunk in for them. After all, receiving the golden buzzer meant her daughter was one of the top performers in the show. “I mean, I knew what was going to happen, and I was still just beside myself. I couldn’t even eat dinner. I was a mess,” she said while recounting what it was like watching her daughter audition on the show.

Farmer’s classmates were also surprised to see her on the show since she kept it a secret since auditioning in March. “One of my friends said, ‘OMG, did you get the golden buzzer?’ And I said, ‘Really? That is really hard to do. Really?’” she said.
