According to producers of the upcoming Superman film, actress Amy Adams has been cast as Lois Lane.

[Amy Adams has] the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious, and of course, beautiful, said director Zack Snyder.

Adams will star alongside British actor Henry Cavill in the film which is slated for a December 2012 release. The film is still untitled.

Adams has big shoes to fill as Margot Kidder played the role of Lois Lane in the four Superman films starring Christopher Reeve.

Kate Bosworth took over the role when the Man of Steel was revived in 2006.

For Snyder's film, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner have landed the roles of Superman's adoptive mother and father.

Adams has been nominated for an Academy Award three times. She recently starred in The Fighter, which won a slew of Oscars.

The 36-year-old actress was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role but the award went to her co-star Melissa Leo.
