Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond appears to have become the latest athlete to land a girlfriend through the magic of social media. The 20-year-old has apparently spent the last few weeks wooing “iCarly” actress Jennette McCurdy on Instagram and Twitter.
The alleged romance began in early August, when Drummond posted a picture of McCurdy to his Instagram account, sports gossip blog Jocks And Stiletto Jill notes. Drummond posted the picture as part of Instagram’s “Women Crush Wednesday” trend.
Before long, McCurdy, 21, caught wind of the NBA player’s social media efforts. The two began to follow each other on Twitter and quickly struck up a conversation.
“I wanna watch you play!,” McCurdy wrote to Drummond on Twitter. The Pistons star responded by saying that he’d “let [McCurdy] know when I play in LA!”
Later, a Twitter follower asked McCurdy if she was going to mention Drummond as her “ManCrushMonday.” The actress responded by saying “mm hmm.”
But the social media sweethearts were just getting started. Over the past few weeks, Drummond has apparently sent McCurdy several gifts, including flowers and teddy bears. The gifts have caused the pair’s social media followers to suggest that the Pistons star and the “iCarly” actress are dating. McCurdy took to Instagram to show her appreciation.
“My bear Drummy… Thank you,” McCurdy wrote upon receiving the teddy bear. The photo received more than 55,000 likes on Instagram. The “iCarly” star had a similarly enthusiastic reaction when she received a mysterious set of flowers, but she didn’t reveal who sent them. Still, many Instagram commenters speculated that they were a gift from Drummond.
McCurdy also appears to have become a Pistons fan. On Aug. 17, she posted a photo of herself wearing a Pistons sweatshirt. Still, despite the speculation that Drummond and McCurdy are dating, neither party has confirmed the existence of a romantic relationship.
If the Pistons center and the iCarly star are dating, it wouldn’t be the first time that an athlete managed to find a girlfriend on social media. Oklahoma State University football player Zack Craig reportedly met Jordan Daigle, a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, after they followed each other on Twitter.
