The Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and the Xperia Tablet Z are updating to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Sony

Sony has proven its dedication to supporting its devices with the latest software as the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is now rolling out for several including the Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and the Xperia Tablet Z.

Sony announced on Monday that the aforementioned devices were updating to Android 4.3, five months after the Japanese manufacturer initially confirmed updates for the devices. With the release of Android 4.4 KitKat, Sony, among many other manufacturers have renewed promises to get their devices caught up to the latest software. Perhaps it has something to do with the ‘Project Svelte’ optimization within Android 4.4, which makes the operating system compatible with a wide range of devices, from high-end to low. The Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and the Xperia Tablet Z will be among those devices eventually updating to Android 4.4.

One week prior, the most recent Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra received their Android 4.3 updates. The Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition updated to Android 4.4 KitKat the week before that. Reports indicate that the Sony Xperia ZQ, exclusive to Brazil, is also updating to Android 4.3. The Sony Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V remain to update to Android 4.3, which Sony says it will give details on soon.

The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for Sony’s Xperia devices includes the performance and UI optimization of ‘Project Butter’ as well as a smoother graphical experience. Sony Xperia devices will also receive the Sony’s Smart Social Camera settings, which were introduced in the Xperia Z1; an update of Sony’s entire native app portfolio to the latest versions; integration of Sony’s Media apps; the introduction of ‘Xperia Themes’ with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select; Android security enhancements; and the Battery STAMINA Mode update. The Xperia Tablet Z will also receive the restricted profiles feature introduced with Android 4.3.

Users should expect unlocked international models to update initially. U.S. unlocked models and international and U.S. carrier models will follow in no particular order. Carriers will announce updates for their respective Sony Xperia models as they roll out.
