Android 4.4 KitKat Google

As October continues with no word from Google on its plans to officially unveil Android 4.4 KitKat and the Nexus 5, KitKat -- yes, the candy maker -- has stepped in with what may be clues to the launch date for the operating system and smartphone.

KitKat took to social media Wednesday and shared images on Google + and Twitter, which may offer some insight on what is Google is planning for Android 4.4 KitKat. First, KitKat shared an image of an Android-shaped KitKat bar with the caption, “Everybody dance now!” Noting the phrase comes from the song “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” by C & C Music Factory, which was released on Oct. 18, 1990, many surmise that a prospective release date for Android 4.4 KitKat may be Oct. 18.

Soon after, an image reading “This Is It” in KitKat fingers was shared on the KitKat Google + and Twitter pages. Many have connected the phrase to the Michael Jackson “This Is It” movie, which released in stores posthumously on Oct. 28, 2009. In addition, the album version of “This Is It” released on Oct. 26; however, the latter date is a Saturday, making it less likely for an unveiling event.

Pundits and fans alike appear to be confident in Oct. 28 as the most likely unveiling or release date for Android 4.4 KitKat. Tying together the theory, tech website Engadget noted that C & C Music Factory was previously called "The 28th Street Crew." The Nexus 4 smartphone, Nexus 10 tablet and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system were notably unveiled on Oct. 29 of last year. In addition, the 28th would fall in step with a Halloween unveiling. A previously rumored launch date was Oct. 31, in order for Google and Nestle to capitalize on a Halloween theme, but a few days prior would still be plausible.

Previously, we noted that Google has a trend of announcing its unveiling events approximately one week before they take place. While we have yet to actually hear from Google on the matter, a teaser from KitKat may be a good sign. Perhaps Google will be ready to send out press invites to an October press event in the coming days.

Even so, we note that of the two shared photos, only one directly references Android 4.4 KitKat. The launch dates proposed have only been suggested by fans and pundits and are not succinct. Neither Google or Nestle have announced definitive plans for their collaboration pertaining to the Android KitKat unveiling. So as of now, the wait continues.
