As expected, Sprint's variant of the Samsung (KRX:005935) Galaxy Note 3 with the model number SM-N900P has started receiving the latest Android 4.4 KitKat update on Thursday.

The new firmware is rolling out to the handset as a 503.6 MB over-the-air update with the build number N900PVPUCNAB. According to the changelog for the OTA, the update includes features such as ability to select default launcher and messaging apps, full-screen music album art on lock screen, camera shortcut on lockscreen, improved user interface and stability and wireless-printing support among others, SamMobile reported.

Based on a similar update for the international version of the device, the current firmware update is expected to include other features such as white status bar icons, NFC tap and pay functionality, improved Samsung keyboard and reduced memory usage.

According to a report from Android Police, the latest KitKat update for the Note 3 could also include some Sprint-specific tweaks. While the OTA is reportedly appearing in many places, users are suggested to check for the update in the phone’s settings (Settings > General > About device > Software update).

“Software updates may be released in stages and can take several days for delivery,” Sprint said.

On Wednesday, Samsung provided the kernel source of the Android 4.4 KitKat for the Sprint variant of the Galaxy Note 3, indicating that an official release of the firmware was around the corner.

According to SamMobile, the U.S. Cellular version of the Galaxy Note 3, which was expected to get the KitKat update on Wednesday, is also likely to receive it soon.
