Will the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 update to Android 4.4 between April or May? Google/Fionna Agomuoh

More clues in favor of the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 have leaked as the operating system, which has long been confirmed for update, has yet to roll out on these devices.

Android Geeks has obtained lists of Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 models, which it says will be among those to update to Android 4.4 KitKat in coming weeks. The tech website backs up prior reports from the Korean publication Duam, which indicated that the Galaxy Note 2 would begin to update to Android 4.4 in mid-April while the Galaxy S3 would begin to update in early May. Find lists of the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 models expected to update below.

Gotta Be Mobile notes that the Sprint SPH-L900 Galaxy Note 2 and the Sprint SPH-L710 Galaxy S3 models are included on the lists; thus far, these are the only models that have been confirmed for the Android 4.4 update by a carrier. Sprint has not yet indicated specific rollout dates for Android 4.4 on these models. Samsung confirmed updates for several Galaxy models in February, but the AT&T Galaxy S4 Active is currently the only handset outside of the 2013 flagships to update to Android 4.4.

In March, a leaked document surfaced indicating that the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 may update to Android 4.4 in April or May. Tech website Just About Phones determined that the document was discarded due to an error in the model number listed for the Galaxy Note 2, which made it available for leaking. In November, a similar document leaked, also indicating that the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 may update to Android 4.4 in March or April.

Other reports have suggested that the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 would begin updating to Android 4.4 after the Galaxy S4 updated to the new system. The Galaxy S4 is still in the process of updating to Android 4.4, though most models in major markets have updated. Tentative rollout plans manufacturers and carriers made months in advance often end up falling though by the time device begins to update.

While we wait for the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 to update to Android 4.4, users can check for the update manually by accessing Settings > General > About device > Software update on their handsets.
