Here is some good news for the owners of the T-Mobile (NYSE:TMUS) variant of the LG G2, who have been waiting for the latest Android version for their device. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is now available for the device for download and flashing.

Users of the T-Mobile LG G2 should note that the new firmware cannot be installed via over-the-air update. Instead, the new update is delivered as a 1.5 GB KDZ file, which needs to be installed using the LG Mobile Support Tool.

After installing the new firmware, version KOT49I.D80120a, the device will lose any custom recovery installed in it. If you have LG’s PC Utility installed on your computer, download the file and then update the device. You can also download the update via the direct download link below.

There is no information from either LG (KRX:066570) or T-Mobile about a possible release time frame for the OTA. However, considering that AT&T's G2 was recently updated to KitKat and that the T-Mobile G2's update is sitting on LG's servers, the OTA is likely to arrive sooner than later.

Meanwhile, the Android 4.4 KitKat update is also reportedly making its way to the AT&T (NYSE:T) variant of the LG Optimus G Pro. The news came from XDA Forum member shanmukha24, who claimed that the firmware update would be rolling out for the device within a month or so.

After losing his IMEI while flashing a ROM to his AT&T LG G Pro, shanmukha24 sent the device for service, and the phone was returned to him with a beta build of AT&T-branded KitKat, according to XDA developers.

The report also said that shanmukha24 has already managed to extract the “system” partition, in hopes that developers can create a flashable update for users of rooted device.
