Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge owners who got their phones from Verizon can now jump for joy. The wireless company is now rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the 2-year-old smartphones.

On Monday, Droid-Life reported about the rollout of the Nougat update for the two Galaxy phones after receiving tips from owners that they were prompted to update their handsets to the latest software version available to them. Galaxy S6 users are getting the G920VVRS4DQD1 update, while S6 edge owners are receiving the G925VVRS4DQD1 software version.

Some users who already got the updates shared screenshots of the notification they got. Based on the notification, the new system updates comes with security updates, a new battery management page, enhanced multitasking options, photo effects as well as filter previews and a keyboard update that improves language predictions.

It wasn’t clear if the Android 7.0 Nougat update comes with the March or April security patch, as per Phone Arena. What’s clear for now is that the new software for the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge will eat up more than 1GB of memory.

Since Verizon just started rolling out the updates, users are advised to manually check if they are already available in their area. To do this, they should head to Settings then tap System Updates. A notification saying a new update is now available for download should appear. It is important that devices should be connected to a WiFi network when downloading the updates.

Verizon said that the software updates for the two smartphones have been tested to optimize performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches. More details are provided on Verizon’s support pages for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

The release of the Nougat update for the two devices comes about two weeks after the Galaxy S6 edge+ was updated to Android 7.0.
