Angelina Jolie received an award during the Sarajevo Film Festival for her "active engagement in the complexities of the real world" along with her acting talents.

After a standing ovation, she accepted the Heart of Sarajevo award during the 17th Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia on July 30 with tears in her eyes.

"I am so honored to be here at this festival," Jolie said. "There is no greater example of the strengths of the artists and the festival that began during the war and grew stronger every year."

Jolie, along with long-time boyfriend Brad Pitt, visited Bosnia as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. last year, in an effort to reach the thousands of refugees suffering the effects from a war in Bosnia lasting from 1992-1995.

Angelina Jolie wrote and directed a film entitled "In the Land of Blood and Honey" set to release this Dec. surrounding a couple affected by the war in Bosnia.
