Almost shedding some tears onstage at the Sarajevo film festival on Saturday, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, accompanied by her boyfriend Brad Pitt, received the honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award.

"I will start crying if you don't stop," Jolie told the crowd when she was given a standing ovation at the city's National Theater. The Oscar-winning actress was awarded with the heart-shaped trophy recognizing her contributions to the entertainment world and her humanitarian efforts. The celeb couple made an unannounced appearance at the Sarajevo film festival.

Jolie received her award from Mirsad Purivatra, the director of the film festival.

"Tonight we are giving the honorary Heart of Sarajevo to a great artist, not only for the great impact she has in the world of cinema but also for persisting and her active engagement in the complexities of the real world we live in," Purivatra said.

Jolie was dressed in a long peach gown, while Brad came out in a suit and crisp white shirt with no tie.

Angelina Jolie is going to make her directorial debut with the film "In the Land of Blood and Honey", which is set on Bosnia's 1992-95 war. The movie is set for release in December.

The movie's story is based on a love affair between a Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) woman and a Serb. The two lovers were on opposite warring sides during the Bosnian War and had to bear the consequences of war.

The Actress made her Bosnia visit as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N.'s refugee agency UNHCR. She also founded the construction of several houses for returnees in eastern Bosnia, Reuters reported.
