Anglo American Plc has temporarily halted production at its Loma nickel mine in Venezuela, the firm said on Tuesday.
Output at the mine has been stopped partly due to high transport costs at the mine, Anglo said in a presentation on its website.
Loma de Niquel, Anglo's biggest nickel operation, produced 15,700 tonnes in 2007, accounting for 60 percent of the firm's total nickel output.
The group also said all of its base metals operations have positive margins at current metals prices, but did not provide further details.
Mining firms have been cutting production as sliding metals prices make some operations uneconomical. (Reporting by Eric Onstad; editing by Simon Jessop)
