Anglo American Plc's (AAL.L) unit, Anglo Platinum (AMSJ.J), the world's top producer of the metal, said on Wednesday that it had shut a shaft at its big Rustenburg mine in South Africa after a worker died.

Simon Tebele, a spokesman for Angloplat, said the worker was killed on Tuesday after a section of the shaft in which he was working fell on him. The shaft was shut immediately to allow for investigations, he said.

It was unclear how much output would be lost, he said.
