Although Anne Hathaway and Lindsay Lohan have had very different paths, the One Day star says she and Lohan have more similarities than one might think. The 29-year-old actress opened up about her destructive past in an interview with The Sun.

Lindsay Lohan and I have more in common than people think, Hathaway told The Sun. We've all done things we shouldn't. It is just that I did stuff at college when nobody knew about it, so I'm not a saint. I wasted time doing self-destructive things.

I found you can only dance on so many table tops, Hathaway said. I got all that out of my system and I am healthy and grounded.

Hathaway has built a successful career for herself following her breakthrough role in the 2001 film The Princess Diaries. Hathaway recently starred in the romantic hit, One Day, and has acted in a slew of successful films from The Devil Wears Prada alongside Meryl Streep to Brokeback Mountain with Jake Gyllenhal.

The actress, however, credits much of her success to her parents giving her a strong sense of self.

My mother, Kate McCauley, taught me to be always understanding of other people -- and to have a sense of humor about yourself, she told The Sun.

Hathaway also told The Sun that her mother has passed along tips for treating her skin and embracing her body shape.

Mom has also encouraged me not to be one of those people who worry about weight, the actress told The Sun. I know when people refer to me as a 'regular' girl, that it is a code word for 'fat' in Hollywood. It is completely understandable, as a teenager, to fret about your body. It is scary, because you don't know how it is going to end up.

But I am not a teenager anymore and my body has chosen its shape. I would rather be strong than skinny.

Hathaway is currently engaged to actor and jewelry designer, Adam Shulman. She will also be co-starring as Catwoman in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, set for release this summer.
